SKINS partnership with Ironman World Champion Leanda Cave

SKINS Compression, a leading international gradient compression sportswear brand, has confirmed its official partnership with professional triathlete, Leanda Cave.

As the first female athlete to win both the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 world titles in the same year in 2012, SKINS ‘is thrilled to provide Cave with the latest technology-driven compression garments as she embarks on her journey to defend both of her 2012 titles in Las Vegas, Nevada and Kona, Hawaii.’

“I have used SKINS’ product for as long as I can remember,” said Cave. “At the level I compete, I need to be able to rely on gear that helps me perform at my very best. SKINS does just that and also offers an added bonus of enhancing my recovery through its gradient compression technology.”

She added, “The make-up of SKINS products is of such high quality that they have become an essential part of my training and recovery. They allow my body to compete at equally optimum levels for all three sports: swimming, cycling and running.”

As part of the agreement, SKINS will feature Cave across integrative marketing efforts, including but not limited to, advertising, in-store and online promotion, point-of-sale collateral, social media, viral videos, as well as speaking engagements and appearances at expos and trade shows.

SKINS’ signage will also be represented on her K-SWISS triathlon race kit in all her future competitions.

“We truly believe this partnership with an elite athlete, such as Leanda, showcases everything that SKINS stands for: helping athletes perform at their very best,” said Jaimie Fuller, SKINS Chairman. “Leanda respects the true spirit of competition and her determined views against doping go hand-in-hand with the SKINS brand philosophy.”

He added, “Leanda is well-known for having one of the best swim/bike one-two punches, and her improving run makes her a serious competitor at any distance. This continued career success coupled with her strength, determination and passion for her sport makes her the ideal ambassador for our brand.”

SKINS compression wear is designed to help athletes reach their peak performance with products developed for specific sports and levels of activity. Whatever the sport, SKINS notes that it allows athletes to train harder, compete longer and recover faster.

SKINS’ triathlon specific innovations include:

TRI400 Chamois
Using Elastic Interface Technology, the TRI400 chamois is designed specifically for triathletes looking for maximum comfort and performance:

  • High density foam provides protection with a slim profile
  • All-way stretch elastic insert expands and contracts with the body’s movement, eliminating friction whilst pedalling
  • Textured surface allows for optimum moisture transfer and comfort
  • The non-absorbent foam adapts to the bike immediately after the swim leg

Anti-friction Carbon Panels
In SKINS’ TRI400 suit, strategically placed carbon-infused fabric panels are between the thighs. The company cites tests, which have shown that anti-friction carbon panels generate up to 40% less friction. According to SKINS, this means less chafing, more comfort – and better performance when on the run.

TRI400 fabric
The SKINS TRI400 suit has strategically placed panels of ultra smooth Toray fabric. This heat and pressure treated material minimises drag and gives the athlete a more streamlined profile as they cut through the water. Blended from Cationic polyester and LYCRA, the TRI400 Toray fabric also resists colour fading from exposure to light and chlorinated pool water.

SKINS TRI400 Technical Fabric

All SKINS products are specifically designed to compress muscle groups to trigger acceleration in blood flow. This results in increased oxygen to working muscles, maximizing performance while simultaneously reducing exercise-induced muscle damage, the key factor in speeding up recovery time.

SKINS notes that its clothing is unique in the market because its products are body mapped to compress certain muscles with varying degrees of pressure for superior fit and results.

Originally developed in Australia in 1996, SKINS has invested heavily in research and is now ‘Australia’s leading therapeutic compression brand’ whilst increasing its footprint internationally.

Taking a unique line of performance apparel to the United State in 2007, SKINS continues to make its number one focus research and development in order to improve, rigorously test and expand its range of products.

SKINS is supported by numerous independent studies published in peer reviewed medical journals. It is also recommended and endorsed by the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
