The Challenge Weymouth team is working with Julia’s House, The Dorset Children’s Hospice, which will be the official charity partner at the inaugural UK event on 14 September 2014.
Julia’s House is the first and only hospice in Dorset for children with life-limiting conditions. The hospice provide nurses and carers for children, either in the hospice itself or in the comfort of their own home. The team also provides support for the rest of the child’s family, enabling them to cope better at a very difficult time.
Steve Mills, Events Fundraiser at Julia’s House Hospice said, “Our nurses and carers provide life-changing support for parents and their children both in the hospice and in their own homes. We are there year-round and in a crisis, offering emergency respite and overnight care. We are also there when the worst happens, offering emotional and practical support at the end of a child’s life.’
Steve continued to describe what fundraising efforts mean to Julia’s House. “We need to raise £3.9 million in 2014, yet we receive only 7.5% of our total annual funding from the government. The rest of our essential income is raised through the generosity of the Dorset community, corporate partners and charitable foundations. While fundraising may be tough, it’s not as tough as the challenges facing Julia’s House families every day.”
And not only is it an incredibly worthwhile cause to support, racing for Julia’s House is now also a great opportunity to take part in Challenge Weymouth for free.

For Individual Entry
Full distance: raise £1000 in sponsorship for a full refund of entry fee.
Half-distance: raise £750 in sponsorship for a full refund of entry fee.
For Team Entry
Full distance: raise £1500 in sponsorship to get a full refund of entry fee
Half-distance: raise £1000 in sponsorship for a full refund of entry fee.
All participants that sign up to support Julia’s House will also receive a Team Welcome Pack, which will include fundraising information, a sponsor form and t-shirt or running vest.
All athletes need to do is enter Challenge Weymouth in the normal way via challengeweymouth.com, and tick the ‘Julia’s House’ box online.
The team at Julia’s House will then be in touch to sort athletes out with a charity race place.
Challenge Weymouth is the Challenge Family’s main UK event and is part of the Global Challenge Series of long distance triathlons. It is organized and executed by experienced race organizers Just Racing UK. Just Racing UK organizes a range of running, cycling, duathlon and triathlon events in the UK, including National Championships, World and European age group qualifying races, and pool and open water triathlons.
