Cycling apparel brand PEdAL ED has unveiled its Odyssey Bikepacking Bag range. The latest range comprises the Odyssey Cluster seat-bag, the Internode half-frame bag, the Node bag and handlebar bag, the Tendril.
‘Designed with both rider and bike in mind, each bag is robust, water-resistant, lightweight, has reflective details, is easy to attach and remove, while enabling easy access on the move. Padding, double-layered fabric and Velcro fixings combine to reduce potential damage to the frame through mud, dust, rear wheel contact or content movement.’
Synonymous with bikepacking is the seat-bag. Whether for a sub-24 hour mini-adventure, an around-the-world odyssey or anything in between, the Odyssey Cluster can also be compressed down when carrying minimal kit. The fabric has an internal water-resistant coating, while double-layered fabric in the lower half of the bag, combined with a protective insert, acts as a mudguard and reduces damage from rear wheel contact. The two Velcro straps that attach the bag to the frame are coated on the inside with a non-slip material to enhance grip and help reduce abrasion on the seat-post.
The Odyssey Internode is a half-frame bag, designed to sit within the main triangle of the frame, fixed to the top, down and seat tubes via a series of Velcro straps. Experience and feedback have refined the design of the fixings, with the Velcro straps connected to the bag using sewn-in loops rather than being directly sewn to the bag. This ensures flexibility, enabling the straps to be attached in the optimal position depending on the bike’s frame and helps to maintain the bag’s load volume, even when fixed on the typically narrow tubes of steel-framed bikes.
The Internode is reinforced at the head tube with extra padding to avoid potential frame damage from the contents, while there is a small opening for cables or drinking tubes.
PEdAL ED’s versatile Node bag sits on the top-tube and can be positioned either at the headset or seat-post end. Non-slip fabric on the bottom of the bag helps to prevent lateral movement when pedalling, while a central zip means that the bag can be opened with one hand for ease of access. The two side mesh pockets are for small items, energy bars or wrappers.
Completing the range is the handlebar bag, the Tendril, which can be mounted on both drop and straight bars. Through the use of special rubber spacers, it sits about 20mm from the handlebars allowing brake and gear cables to run unhindered. Two adjustable straps on the outside mean that additional items can be carried, for example, a bulky tent or sleeping mat.
