Triathlon infighting continues in Trinidad and Tobago, as Jason Gooding, Events Director at the Rainbow Warriors Triathlon Club (RWTC) blasted the Trinidad and Tobago Triathlon Association (TTTA) for its “unprofessional approach” in the running of the organisation.
The two bodies have been at loggerheads since the TTTA announced the date for its AGM, which is scheduled for the same day as RWTC’s second annual Chancellor Charity Run. Repeated calls have come for the TTTA to change the date of its AGM, scheduled for 29 November.
The row became personal as Gooding claimed that TTTA President Andrew Eligon “does not have the best interest of the sport at heart.” Gooding noted that the RWTC had reserved the November date for its event since January this year and has accused the TTTA of trying to shut them out of the AGM.
The dispute deepened when an RWTC official warned that if the TTTA does not shift the date for the AGM all triathletes and clubs affiliated to the TTTA will be banned from participating in RWTC events.
Gooding claimed that RWTC is responsible for keeping triathlon alive in Trinidad and Tobago but is not receiving equal allocation of resources. “We do all the hard work but they benefit. It is not just us, there are several other clubs that are unhappy,” he argued.
