FACTOR001 shipping in first quarter 2010

The FACTOR001, from BERU f1systems, billed as ‘the most advanced bicycle in the world’, is now on sale. On display and available from the Harrods department store in London, customers can order one of the first five machines off the production line for delivery in March/April of 2010 depending on specification.

According to bf1systems, the bike has been undergoing further endurance tests and the company has ‘been privileged to receive feedback from a highly experienced and professional cycling expert.’ This insight has been crucial for fine tuning the setup and characteristics of the FACTOR001.

The result is a cycle that is highly responsive, feeling considerably lighter than the official 7.4kg model. The frame has delivered what the company believes are now levels of stiffness yet with built in compliance to ensure a smooth ride.

In terms of the fine details of the FACTOR001 and taking the LEDs as an example, four red LEDs are seamlessly integrated into the rear of the frame providing a lightweight and clean solution. Upfront, two white LED’s clearly indicate to oncoming traffic that a cyclist is approaching.

The FACTOR001 is offered in two different specifications:

Standard non electronic bike: FACTOR001s
• Di2s Shimano semi auto electrical gear shift system
• Pre-wired for electronics upgrade and includes integrated LEDs in low light conditions
• Crank position sensor receiver – can be used in conjunction with bf1systems power cranks
• Real wheel embedded with eight magnets for accurate speed sensing
• Saddle of rider’s choice
• Pedals of rider’s choice
• Standard speed white composite frame
• FACTOR001 lacquered composite wheels
• Integrated bottle cage mounting
• Integrated battery with composites case and charger

Full electronic bike as standard: FACTOR001e
• Fully instrumented, including touch screen display in ‘E’ specification handlebars
• Fulyl instrumented cranks with wireless interface to head unit
• Removable data logger unit for remote download and data analysis
• Full analysis software package
• GPS positioning (not for route planning)
• 100+ channels of data capturing
• Full medical grade ECG monitor available as a cost option

Both FACTOR001 bike models will be complimented by a suite of accessories. This first is a range of transit and shipping cases. The largest provides a secure and safe method to ship the FACTOR001 internationally with additional space for tools and equipment.

Customers ordering today can expect to take delivery of their FACTOR001 in March 2010. Those specifying the full electronics package will receive their FACTOR001 in April 2010.
