Florida’s Heartland Triathlon has raised its profile on the US triathlon calendar in 2009. The sprint distance race is graced with the presence of six-time World Ironman Champion Mark Allen and has received US$3,000 (€2,180) sponsorship from the local Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA).
The CRA sponsorship money will be used to help advertise the event across the region. "The money the CRA is putting into the event, we will be working with the local chamber to book advertising," said Pete Pollard, CRA Executive Director. "We will actually book the advertising and book it directly, which saves money because the CRA is tax-exempt."
Similar to other events held within the region, such as the Run to the Heartland race, the Heartland Triathlon attracts a younger demographic that the CRA is keen to bring to the local town and thus boost the local economy.
Meanwhile, triathlon legend Allen is offering free training clinics to kids and adults on 25 July, during the two day (25-26 July) triathlon weekend, which also includes a triathlon expo.
In addition, and running in tandem to the Heartland Triathlon event, for a limited time MarkAllenOnline is offering a special price to any beginner triathletes whose main goal is to compete in a sprint triathlon. The coaching service is offered as a 12 week customised sprint plan for US$175.00 and a 20 week sprint plan for US$285.00. This is around 50% off the regular price.
Also commenting on the event, another triathlon legend Dave Scott, is reported to have said: “Since 1976, I have been involved in the sport of triathlon racing and attending events throughout the world. The Heartland Tri falls in the top ten of all triathlon events during my career. It is extraordinarily well organised and managed. Amenities for all levels of athletes are first class. I hope to come back again and enjoy the fun in the future!”
