Athletes and their friends and family will be able to watch a virtual recap of the USAT National Junior Olympic Festival through www.zumtri.com.
ZumTri is a new web-based Flash application that shows a virtual race, complete with swimming, cycling and running animations of athletes competing against each other on a map of the course. The technology converts chip-timing results into an interactive race visualization by calculating the athlete’s pace to estimate positions throughout the race.
Since last year’s results are a good measure for what will happen this year, athletes can create a goal racer to see how their goal time would likely measure up against the field. To do this, users simply select “Goal” in the lower left hand side of the ZumTri application screen.
Along with animations, the scoreboard provides information such as race time, speed, overall place, age-group place and place among friends and rivals. Beyond the race graphics, participants can also look at several charts and graphs to help them analyze their ranking for each leg, and where they fit in the overall time of the race. Athletes can also bookmark and share their race results through common social networking services.
