Tapping into the popularity of middle distance and long course racing in Australia, comes the latest new event… the 2XU Falls Creek Triathlon 2011.
After months of planning, event organisers SuperSprint have confirmed that the inaugural 2XU Falls Creek Triathlon takes place on 13 February 2011.
The organisers ‘are excited to present you with a spectacular new long course triathlon that will no doubt become a “must do” event on the National Triathlon Calendar. It will also host the Victorian Long Course Championships.’
Falls Creek is Victoria’s largest and most scenic alpine village, and sets the scene for a weekend holiday with excellent accommodation and activities not only for triathletes, but for their friends and family. It has also been renowned for providing quality altitude training camps, for Australian nationals and international competitors alike.
The course involves:
Swim 2K: in the pristine Rocky Valley Lake (approx 17C)
Cycle 80K: ‘undulating and scenic,’ 3 laps with full road closure
Run 20K: a 2 lap run on beautiful running trails
According to Leon Griffin (former World Duathlon Champion and 2nd place in the Geelong 70.3 2010), “This summer is shaping up to be a smorgasbord for triathletes with some exciting new events to hit the circuit. My head will be in the clouds ‘literally’ with my focus on the inaugural Falls Creek Long Course Tri which is going to be a beauty – I can’t wait!"
Mitch Anderson (winner of the Strongman All Japan Triathlon) added, "This will be great! Don’t underestimate how many triathletes will want to do this race."

Entry fees are as follows:
Individual: A$220 (Triathlon Australia (TA) Member) or A$250 (non-TA Member)
Team of 3: A$250 (TA Member) or A$280 (non-TA Member)
