Duncan Hough has been appointed to the position of Director for Events, Rules and Technical for the Triathlon England Management Board. He joined the Management Board of the English governing body for triathlon on 23 November 2010.
The appointment ends a successful year for Hough, who has also been named the Leigh Day & Co British Triathlon Official of the Year.
Commenting on his appointment, Hough said, “To join the Board of Triathlon England Management Board, as Director for Events, Rules and Technical is an exciting opportunity. Triathlon is a fast growing, modern and dynamic Olympic sport, with the number of events permitted by Triathlon England increasing year on year.
“With the Commonwealth Games and London 2012 on the horizon, it is even more important to ensure that Triathlon England continues to enable excellence in this area and deliver the opportunities for everyone to achieve their personal triathlon challenges.”
Hough has been the ITU Assistant Technical delegate for the GE Strathclyde Park Triathlon; and the Technical Official at the 2010 GE Edinburgh ITU Duathlon World Championships, GE Parc Bryn Bach Triathlon and Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship London presented by Tata Steel.
At a regional level in the West Midlands, he has been the lead official of the Regional Championships and is also an active British Triathlon Level 2 Coach, successfully receiving the 2009 Regional Coach of the Year award.
Triathlon England Chairman, Jem Lawson added "I am delighted to welcome Duncan to the team with his experience and expertise. He has a deep knowledge of the sport and has cogent thoughts about taking this area forward in the future.
“In welcoming Duncan, I’d like to pay tribute to the work of Alan Spelling in this role over the last two years; a period during which significant progress has been made."
Director for Triathlon England, Mark Barfield echoed Lawson’s comments. “We are delighted to get the opportunity to work with Duncan and are keen to continue the progress started under the tenure of Alan, progressing the profile and programme for race officials in England.”
