The Competitor Group (CGI) has announced that veteran ProTour mechanic Nick Legan has joined VeloNews as Technical Editor for the magazine and website.

After graduating from Indiana University with honours and a degree in French and journalism, Legan jumped straight into wrenching at Pro Peloton (the bike shop) for a few years. Then, he began a seven-year stint in the professional ranks, most recently serving for RadioShack at the Tour de France and the Amgen Tour of California.
He also worked for Garmin-Slipstream, CSC, Toyota-United, Health Net and Ofoto.
“For 15 years I’ve followed VeloNews, especially the tech articles, for in-depth coverage of professional cycling,” Legan said. “With my journalism background and passion for bicycle technology, this is truly a dream job.
“I’m excited to further explore the cycling industry and help our readers enjoy their riding even more.”
Legan’s other wrenching experience includes a tenure as head mechanic for the US Olympic team in 2008, various national teams competing at worlds, the Clif Bar Cyclo-Cross Team, the Little 500, and more.
At VeloNews, Legan joins longtime technical wizard Lennard Zinn and technical writer Caley Fretz, who joined the publication earlier this year.
