Triathlon has reached India, home of one of the world’s largest middle class populations. The new India International Triathlon event is set to take place in Goa, India’s number one tourist destination, on 14 February 2010.
The event has been timed to coincide with the Goa Carnival, one of India’s more famous Indian carnivals. Held in mid February, the carnival features three days and nights where the streets come alive with processions, floats, music and dance. Thanks to the coastal Konkan region and the backdrop of the Western Ghats, the weather in Goa is pleasant and sunny. The average temperature in February is: 26°C/78°F
Held at Candolim Beach in Goa, India, the event has Elite/Pro, Age Group and Relay divisions. Race formats include:
International Triathlon: 1.5K Swim / 60K Bike / 11K Run – entry US$125
Olympic Distance Triathlon: 1.5K Swim / 40K Bike / 10K Run – entry US$125
Sprint Triathlon: 500m Swim / 20K Bike / 5K Run – entry US$90
There will also be a Duathlon, 5K Fun Run and a Kids Dash to reach out to a wider audience and encourage participation across all age groups and individuals.
The India International Triathlon will also have 18 qualifying slots for the newly announced 2010 Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship. Special discounted rates for a wide range of hotels in Goa are available for India International Triathlon participants.
