Live coverage of Challenge Wanaka, the international iron distance triathlon, will reach around the world with live text updates and comprehensive web coverage in early 2011.
Taking place on 15 January 2011, Challenge Wanaka is ‘New Zealand’s fastest growing iron distance triathlon.’ The event is part of the global Challenge series of long distance races that features 11 events in Australia, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Denmark, Austria as well as New Zealand.
The main race is the flagship event of the Challenge Wanaka Triathlon Festival that runs from 9-15 January 2011 and also includes Puzzling World Junior Challenge Wanaka, the Radio Wanaka 5K Charity Fun Run, Swim the Course, Contact Cup Sprint Triathlon and the LakeWanaka Half.
Friends and supporters of the 1,200 athletes in the Challenge Wanaka event can follow their progress with real time text updates along the course from anywhere in the world. While those in front of a computer can also follow the race leaders’ progress as well as track individual athletes on where they are, how fast they’re going and what place they’re in.

The text service costs users NZ$10 per phone number for the main Challenge Wanaka event and NZ$8 per phone number for the Lake Wanaka Half with seven and five text updates respectively.
