Sardinia will host the first ever TriStar222 long distance triathlon on 3 October 2010. TriStar222 Sardinia is situated on the Emerald Coast – one of the most beautiful areas of Italy. The first long distance triathlon in Italy entails 2K of swimming, 200K of cycling and 20K of running. The new race is organized by I AM SPORT Events & Consulting and Star Production SARL, with the support of the region of Sardinia.
According to TriStar format promoter Star Production, the new TriStar222 Sardinia is the first long distance triathlon with an international label to be hosted in Italy. The new Sardinia event is a welcome boost for the TriStar format organisers, following the recent cancellation of the TriStar111 Lisboa event.
“TriStar222 Sardinia offers one of my favourite cycling routes, attractive from the standpoint of scenery and at the same time challenging in terms of racing, thanks to the rolling landscapes,” said Italian triathlete Martina Dogana, who has participated in developing the race in Sardinia. “The hilly layout will enable all athletes to compete in agility and strength, and at the same time it will make the competition even more exciting.”
Costa Smeralda – the Emerald Coast – is a coastal area in northern Sardinia covering more than 30km with enchanting beaches and beautiful landscapes. The area is a luxurious tourist destination and hosts important international sports events such as the Sardinia Cup sailing regatta, polo matches, vintage car rallies, and also the Italian Film Festival.
"Our city is enriched by a new international event that will help promote the area and facilitate meetings of world-class athletes and actors of a fascinating sport discipline that is sweeping across Europe with increasing numbers of participants,” added Stefano Piero Filigheddu, Mayor of Arzachena, at the media presentation of the event. “I thank everyone for their speed in setting up this event allowing us to be at the top of this sport in Italy.”
TriStar222 Sardinia Arzachena Costa Smeralda is organised by I AM SPORT Events & Consulting, a Milan-based company founded by Andrea Vasco, Marco Galliena and Stefano Leone. The region of Sardinia is supporting the event. In addition, FITRI (Italian Triathlon Federation), Road Runner Club Milan and Oscar Petroboni – technical delegate for the Beijing Olympics 2008 and Member of the Technical Commission of ETU (European Triathlon Union) will collaborate with a view to making the event a success.
The TriStar label is owned by Star Production, a Monaco based company specialised in organising ‘high quality sports events that are focused on fun, social responsibility and environmental protection’. A portion of each entry fee is donated automatically to Lance Armstrong’s LIVESTRONG foundation, and each event applies the 4vita programme to reduce the environmental impact of sports events.
The full event website will go live on 19 January 2010 with online registration open at www.tristar222sardinia.com.
