2012 Bicycle Leadership Conference open for business

Organisers of the 2012 Bicycle Leadership Conference have finalised the event’s agenda and announced that online registration is now open. Taking place on 17-19 April in Monterey, California, the conference will examine the rising importance of cities in bicycle advocacy, digital marketing strategies and means of raising capital in a restrictive lending climate.

“We have a balanced agenda covering the breadth of the bike market,” said Chris Speyer, President of the Bicycle Product Suppliers Association (BPSA) and presenting sponsor of the annual conference. “While we have a lot of ground to cover, we also made sure to clear out sufficient time to allow for networking and bike rides.”

The conference will open with a discussion on the rising power of cities in building bicycle infrastructure.

“There are great things happening for cycling throughout America,” said Richard Fries, Bicycle Leadership Conference (BLC) Director. “However, fiscal challenges remain at the Federal level. Fortunately, many cities have really filled the gap with major initiatives to support cycling.”

Some of the other topics on the agenda include…

  • Raising Capital: How to Allocate Financial Resources in the Global Marketplace. With banks tightening up lending, companies have become creative in securing operating capital.
  • Reaching Hidden Markets: Some Great Ideas… Fast! A group of presenters will each have a few minutes to present their unique ideas on growing the cycling market, followed by questions and remarks from the audience.
  • Human Resources: How to Attract and Keep the Best. This program will highlight recruiting and retention strategies that work, within the bike industry’s modest compensation structures.
  • Leveraging the Internet: Using Real Time Data In Your Supply Chain. Managing and sharing inventory data, creative marketing techniques, and other key business strategies will be addressed. This panel will showcase how new technologies can work for the cycling industry.

The Bicycle Leadership Conference is ‘the annual gathering of cycling’s leadership.’ The conference provides a platform for executives from established and emerging companies to discuss industry challenges and opportunities. The event is presented by the Bicycle Product Suppliers Association (BPSA) and hosted by the Sea Otter Classic.
