UK open water swimming fans can ‘splash back to summer’ by soaking up highlights of the 2011 British Gas Great Swim Series events on Channel 4 over the next few weeks. The first show will broadcast by Channel 4 on Sunday 16 October at 06:50 GMT.

For those who would like to take the plunge in 2012, entries are now open for next year’s British Gas Great East Swim, British Gas Great Manchester Swim (formerly the British Gas Great Salford Swim) and British Gas Great North Swim events.
Entry dates for the British Gas Great Scottish Swim and British Gas Great London Swim 2012 will be announced soon.
All of the events in the British Gas Great Swim Series 2011 were memorable for each of the many participants, with a total of 22,000 swimmers taking to the water and next year’s swims look set to be even bigger and better.
Each of the five events taking place across the UK have their own unique feel, from the serene Strathclyde Country Park, home of the British Gas Great Scottish Swim to the skyscraper-lined Royal Victoria Dock, which hosts the British Gas Great London Swim. With distances ranging from a half a mile to two miles and expert safety crews on hand at all times, the events are suitable for swimmers of levels, from Olympians to first-time participants.
