With a year to go until the starting gun goes off, general registration for the 2012 Ironman Lake Placid event is now full. Although, Ironman Foundation slots for the 2012 event are still available. The race is scheduled for Sunday 22 July 2012. Ironman Lake Placid will offer 50 age group qualifying slots to the 2012 Ironman World Championship, taking place on 13 October in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
Ironman Lake Placid is the second oldest Ironman in North America and one of the most popular events in the sport. Athletes begin with a swim in the peaceful, pristine waters of Mirror Lake, followed by a demanding two-loop bike course through the surrounding hills of the Adirondacks. The two-loop run course will challenge athletes, with a tour through the city centre while finishing at the Olympic Speed Skating Oval.
Since its inception in 2003, the Ironman Foundation has donated close to US$10 million to charitable causes around the globe. A portion of the foundation’s proceeds will be directed back to causes in the Lake Placid area.
