Organisers of the Washington DC Triathlon have unveiled the official sponsors for the 2011 race, to take place on Sunday 19 June 2011 in the US capital.
The event’s official sponsors include: VidaFitness, Georgetown Running Company, The Bike Rack, PowerAde Zero, Xterra Wetsuits and POM Wonderful.
Molly Quinn, owner of The Washington DC Triathlon and The Nation’s Triathlon, said “We thank all of our official sponsors for their support of the 2nd Annual Washington DC Triathlon.
“Their on-going support helps us offer two unparalleled triathlon experiences in the nation’s capital – races which respond to the growing enthusiasm and participation in endurance sports in this region and across the country.”
Brought to tri fans by the producers of The Nation’s Triathlon, the Washington DC Triathlon will feature Sprint and Olympic distance courses that wind through DC’s monumental corridors with a spectacular finish along Pennsylvania Avenue – America’s Main Street – in the shadow of the US Capitol Building.
A USAT-sanctioned race, the Sprint and Olympic distance races will start in West Potomac Park along the banks of the Potomac River and will finish on Pennsylvania Avenue and 3rd Streets, NW.
The race is part of the World Triathlon Corporation’s 5150 series, offering sizeable prize money to professional triathletes.
Speaking back in October 2010 about the DC Triathlon tie-up with WTC’s 5150 series, Quinn, said, “Our 2011 race, which joins the 5150 series, will include both age group and professional triathletes.
“Professionals will compete in the International [Olympic] distance race with a prize purse of US$25,000 for the fastest male and female. We look forward to hosting a world class event next June for the 2011 5150 series.”
Starting in 2011, the 5150 Series from WTC is billed as the largest International/Olympic distance triathlon series in the world and will be the first non-drafting race series of its kind, offering a competitive platform for professional and age group athletes.
