This past Saturday and Sunday, 3-4 December, the first HITS Triathlon Series event, presented by HighTower and featuring five distances over a single weekend, brought out a field of over 1,000 athletes and introduced hundreds of men, women and children to the sport of triathlon.
Set against the picturesque desert hills of the Palm Springs region, Saturday morning featured a Sprint and Olympic distance triathlon followed by the HITS Open, a free novice participatory triathlon created especially for first-timers who never thought that competing in a triathlon was possible.
Sunday brought out seasoned triathletes who raced in the half and full distance triathlons under relatively calm and sunny skies.
“The HITS Triathlon Series event has finally made its debut and we’d like to thank all the athletes who made it so successful,” said Mark Wilson, Race Director of HITS Triathlon Series. “We saw many participating in their first-ever triathlon on Saturday and finished off the weekend with competitive Half and Full distance races. Our goal of creating ‘A distance for everyone!’ has become a reality and we are excited to further enhance the event in Naples, FL, in January.”
Next month, the HITS Triathlon Series kicks off the 2012 series in Naples, Florida. The first qualifier of the year for the HITS Championship, the HITS Triathlon Series Naples takes place on 7-8 January.
