The Nation’s Triathlon has announced that registration for the 4th Annual Nation’s Triathlon Military Challenge is open.
Active duty and veteran members of the US military are invited to compete in The Nation’s Triathlon, an International/Olympic distance triathlon taking place on Sunday 11 September 2011.
The event features a 1.5K swim in the Potomac River, a 40K bike course through downtown D.C., and a 10K run along Washington, DC’s monumental corridor.
Active duty and veteran military personnel can compete as singles or as teams. To date, nearly 400 military competitors have signed up, and space is limited. Those interested are urged to register early at www.nationstri.com as the event is already 85% sold out.
According to Molly Quinn, owner of The Nation’s Triathlon, “Participating in The Nation’s Triathlon, in the shadow of some of our greatest military memorials, from the World War II Memorial to the US Navy Memorial, is a great way for active duty military and veterans to test their fitness and competitive spirit and remember those who came before them.
“We are proud to recognize those who serve in defence of our nation with both an active duty military division and veteran team competition.”
In addition to giving military triathletes the opportunity to compete against each other, The Nation’s Triathlon has also been selected by USA Triathlon as one of 10 regions that will serve as the 2011 Regional Championships and Special Qualifiers, which provide athletes the opportunity to qualify for the 2011 USA Triathlon Age Group National Championship.
The top 33% of each age group at The Nation’s Triathlon will automatically qualify for the 2012 USA Triathlon Age Group National Championship.
Founded by Charles Brodsky, The Nation’s Triathlon is one of the premiere International distance triathlons in the United States and the only race to benefit research toward a cure for blood cancers.
Official sponsors for the 2011 race include: Clif Bar, Clif Shot, Craft, jetBlue, Karhu, Muscle Milk, the Washington Convention and Sports Authority, and Xterra Wetsuits.
