HITS Triathlon standardizes race distances

HITS Inc has announced that the HITS Triathlon Series, the first US national race series to feature five distances at each venue, with events taking place at unique destinations all year long, has modified the distances for its races.

The Sprint, Olympic, Half and Full triathlon events have been tailored to reflect common distances for all 12 locations in 2011 and 2012:

HITS Race Distances

  • Open: 100m swim | 3 mile bike | 1 mile run
  • Sprint: 750m swim | 12.4 mile bike | 3.1 mile run
  • Olympic: 1500m swim | 24.8 mile bike | 6.2 mile run
  • Half: 1.2 mile swim | 56 bike | 13.1 mile run
  • Full: 2.4 mile swim | 112 mile bike | 26.2 mile run

As a new addition to the endurance sports industry, the HITS Triathlon Series aims to offer an innovative experience with its 12-month national race schedule, multiple distances for all levels, and unique amenities for athletes and spectators.

“We heard feedback from many triathletes that they loved the locations, number of events and amenities, but preferred a race distance that is more familiar with what they are used to, and HITS is happy to oblige,” said Mark Wilson, Race Director of the HITS Triathlon Series.

“We are committed to making the HITS Triathlon Series the [US] nation’s best new race series and value feedback from our triathlete community.”

Course maps for the series are being updated to reflect the changes in distance, and maps with elevations will also soon be available.

In addition to the other standard divisions, a category for Clydesdale and Athena athletes has been added. There will be four categories with the same start and cut-off times:

Clydesdale (Men 200lbs+): 39 and under, 40 and above
Athena (Women 160lbs+): 39 and under, 40 and above

The first HITS Triathlon Series event kicks off in Palm Springs, California on 3-4 December 2011, providing the great opportunity for triathletes to race during the US winter months.
