Online registration is open for a number of Australian Ironman 70.3 events, including the Capricorn Resort Ironman 70.3 Yeppoon and Ironman 70.3 Canberra, with each race having valuable qualifying slots to the 2012 Ironman World Championship 70.3 at Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, Nevada.
Capricorn Resort Ironman 70.3 Yeppoon
The Capricorn Resort Ironman 70.3 Yeppoon will take place on 14 August in central Queensland, Australia, on the famed Capricorn Coast.
A unique 1.9K straight-line swim will start at the Capricorn Resort Yeppoon beach (a beach that’s actually over 12K long). Athletes will then head out on the 90K bike course through sub-tropical landscapes on local roads, before a 21K run through trails and tracks on the 22,000 hectare resort grounds that leads into a very special finish alongside the huge resort pools.
Fantastic volunteers and sport-aware supporters and spectators make this event very special.
Athletes will compete for 25 slots to the 2012 Ironman World Championship 70.3, with US$15,000 in prize money available for the professional field.
Ironman 70.3 Canberra
Bracketing the seasons, for northern or southern hemisphere athletes, Ironman 70.3 Canberra is set to take place on 11 December 2011 in Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory.
This ultimate challenge for Ironman 70.3 in Australia takes place in the nation’s capital and commences with a one-lap 1.9K swim in the giant manmade Lake Burley Griffin (featuring the spectacular Captain Cook Fountain), before taking to CBD/downtown and country roads around the Australian Capital Territory.
The two lap run is based within the Canberra CBD/downtown parklands and brings athletes to a great finish line off Anzac Reach within Commonwealth Park after running past many of the iconic buildings and monuments of the capital all the while cheered on by very vocal volunteers and spectators.
Athletes will compete for 25 slots to the 2012 Ironman World Championship 70.3, and like Yeppoon, there is US$15,000 prize money on offer for the professional field.
