Ironman edges closer to Manhattan

World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) is edging closer to staging an Ironman race in New York City, according to a recent news report from Bloomberg.

According to Steve Meckfessel, Chief Operating Officer at WTC, the Ironman brand owner is negotiating with NYC officials about the prospect of staging a full Ironman event in Manhattan.

“There are a lot of entities and moving parts and permits that need to be completed,” said Meckfessel in a telephone interview with Bloomberg. “Nothing is finalized,” Weidensall added. “We do not have a signed contract.”

According to the Bloomberg report, the event would be staged in partnership with Korff Enterprises, which operates the Olympic-distance Nautica NYC Triathlon.

“We’re close, but I thought we were close about three years ago,” said Korff Enterprises owner John Korff. “It’s like being at 26 miles in the marathon.”
