ITU Yokohama stage moved to September

The Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Yokohama event, which had its 14 May 2011 original scheduled date postponed, has now been rescheduled to September.

Following dialogue between the International Triathlon Union, the Local Organising Committee, the city of Yokohama and the Japanese Triathlon Union (JTU), according to the Associated Press, the (ITU) will now hold the Yokohama stage on 18-19 September.

This follows the on-going aftermath of Japan’s devastating earthquake and tsunami.

The elite men’s and women’s race will be held on 19 September, with the paratriathlon and age-group event taking place on 18 September.

The Yokohama event will reportedly count toward the 2012 championship, as the 2011 season will still officially end with the Grand Final in Beijing on 10-11 September.

The 2011 Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series kicked off on 11 April in Sydney, Australia. The next stop of the series will be in Madrid, Spain on 4-5 June.
