Lakeside swimming cut short!

Lakeside Multisports has regretfully announced that it will not be running its popular open water swimming sessions in 2011.

The south of England’s swimming and triathlon community was dealt a major blow this week with news that the region’s only lakeside swimming venue will not be open for business this year.

Despite proving tremendously successful with new and experienced swimmers in 2010, Lakeside Multisports has been unable to come to an agreement with the local council regarding fees and a long term commitment to develop this new business.

The site is owned by Eastleigh Borough Council and Lakeside Multisports had hoped that its five year vision would create a centre of excellence and focus for the sport – particularly with the Olympics taking place in London next year.

However, plans to nurture budding swimmers and cater for the growing triathlete market have been put on hold, after the council announced ‘a massive rise in fees, no long term commitment and issues with storage on site making the venture financially unviable.’

Lakeside Multisports had hoped it could count on the council to support this new business venture, which also provides valuable community support.

Unfortunately, it seems that negotiations have stalled and the company has regretfully had to abandon its plans in the short term.
