A new multisport circuit in Italy is taking to the trails, with the inaugural event held on Sunday 1 May in Terni, central Italy.
The MTB Sprint Triathlon kicks-off the new Italia Off Road series in Terni (1 May). The race, organised by Team Forhans provides 750m of swimming, 12K of mountain biking and a 5K trail run.
"We decided to better the traditional sprint format,” said the President of Team Forhans Gianluca Calfapietra.
“In this way, we also differ from other circuits that link the off-road race to a philosophy of ‘extreme’ competition."
The aim is to attract the mountain bike community and novice triathletes with a safe series of events that are positioned at an affordable price point.
At the Terni MTB Sprint Triathlon, the registration fee is €5.00 for students, €6.00 for the junior category, while enrolment for elite and age-group triathletes is set at €25.00 for those who pre-enrol by Wednesday 27 April.
"The sign-ups for the initial Terni race are going very well,” added Calfapietra.
“There are many requests coming from a number of teams and athletes across northern Italy, proving that there is always interest in races that bring the athlete more in touch with nature, carried out on paths in an absolutely safe environment."
Following the Terni MTB Sprint Triathlon on 1 May, the off-road series moves to Gabiano for an off-road duathlon scheduled for 7 May.
Lake Bolsena then witnesses a second mountain bike sprint triathlon on 28 August. The Finale Ligure completes the four stage series with a MTB Sprint Duathlon scheduled for 16 October 2011.
