Newton Running, the leader in natural running footwear and education, is sponsoring the 18th annual Aspen Medical Products San Diego Triathlon Challenge (SDTC) in La Jolla, California, on 23 October 2011.
The SDTC is a one-of-a-kind event consisting of a one-mile swim, 44-mile bike and 10-mile run. 125 of the world’s top physically challenged athletes will also compete on this gruelling – yet rewarding – course alongside 550 able-bodied triathletes and celebrities. Several Hollywood stars, Basketball Hall of Famer Bill Walton and other pro athletes are slated to compete.
“Social responsibility is a huge part of what we do at Newton Running, which is why we’re happy to support an event that benefits physically challenged athletes,” said Newton Running CEO Jerry Lee.
Proceeds of the Aspen Medical Products San Diego Triathlon Challenge go to the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), which provides the equipment and resources physically challenged athletes need for living an active and fulfilling life.
The top fund raiser wins a coveted entry to the highly sought-after 2012 Ford Ironman World Championships.
As a gold-level sponsor, Newton Running is awarding a free pair of Newton Running Terra Momentus All-Terrain Trainers (winner of Triathlon America’s award for Most Innovative Product) to 100 members of the Gold Team who raised US$2500 in pledges.
The race is sold out, but the public is encouraged to cheer the athletes and watch the race starting at 08:00 PST at La Jolla Cove.
“The San Diego Triathlon Challenge is the greatest day in our sport. To be a part of what this amazing foundation does and how they change lives for people was so motivating, it gave me a purpose. I was inspired, and wanted to do more,” added Ironman World Champion Chris ‘Macca’ McCormack.
