Custom fit running shoe specialist Somnio has appointed Katrin Engel, 34, as its PR Manager for the UK and Ireland with immediate effect.
Engel, who recently moved from Germany to the UK, will be based in Peebles, Scotland, and will work directly with Somnio’s Sales and Marketing Manager Scott McDonald as well as with the company’s European head office in Switzerland.
Engel brings several years of PR experience in the sports industry to Somnio. In her former position as PR Coordinator for the Agency inMotion mar.com, the passionate runner was in charge of European PR for Sugoi Performance Apparel and provided PR services for the agency’s clients Dahon (folding bikes), Met Bicycle Helmets and Hirzl AG (cycling gloves).
Holding a diploma in German Linguistics, Engel also has expert knowledge in linguistics and journalism from former positions with the University of Tuebingen and the daily newspaper Nuertinger Zeitung.
In her new role, Engel will be responsible for developing Somnio’s public relations network in the UK and in Ireland. Besides taking care of all media requests, including product tests, the native German will also manage Somnio’s UK website and will assist at events.
“The UK is a vital market for us,” said Founder and President of Somnio, Sean Sullivan.
“Therefore it is important for us to have a strong team in place. Katrin’s experience in PR together with Scott’s deep insight into the sports trade will be a huge asset in moving the brand forward in the UK. We are happy to welcome Katrin on board.”
Sean Sullivan founded Somnio Running Shoes in 2009 after he experienced chronic pain while running. While being treated at the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine, he learned that the problem was not with his body, but rather his shoes.
Sullivan took the belief that the shoes should adapt to the individual and founded Somnio. Meaning ‘dream’ in Latin, Somnio shoes are ‘designed to help people everywhere live out their dreams.’
Somnio shoes are sold at dealers throughout the world, online and by authorised Somnio fitters. The run shoes feature an adjustable component system that creates a custom-fit to match each person’s unique biomechanics, adapting to (or correcting) the particular alignment, arch and cushioning needs of the foot.
Developed at the prestigious Boulder Center for Sports Medicine, the Spring 2011 line of shoes consists of 7 running shoe models and 9 casual shoe models, all available in gender-specific versions for men and for women.
The running shoe range offers everything from lightweight race shoes and different types of training shoes to trail running shoes – plus the unique possibility of having them fitted perfectly to each foot thanks to 12 adjustable inserts of the company’s F.E.A.T. (Functionally Engineered Adaptable Tricomponent) system.
