Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) recently signed a new sponsorship contract with one of ‘cycling’s most faithful supporters’, the Italian construction materials specialist Mapei.
Under the new contract, Mapei will be the UCI’s main sponsor for the 2011, 2012 and 2013 Road World Championships, and will benefit from increased visibility at these events.
This new partnership is the latest that links the UCI with the worldwide leader in the production of adhesives and chemical products for building and construction. Mapei has also sponsored numerous UCI road, mountain bike and cyclo-cross events, including the 2008, 2009 and 2010 Road World Championships.
In addition, UCI and Mapei will work together on several projects: a partnership between the Mapei Sport Research Centre and the World Cycling Centre (the UCI’s training centre); the participation of Mapei in the UCI ‘reCycling’ programme; and the Italian company’s scientific contribution to the UCI Forum, which will be organised for the first time in 2012.
UCI President Pat McQuaid, welcomed the new contract, stating, “I would like to thank Mapei. Its commitment to cycling over the last twenty years has contributed to the growth of our sport, of which it is one of the most faithful sponsors.”
Mapei’s President and Director, Dr Giorgio Squinzi, said Mapei was proud to be the main sponsor of the Road World Championships, strengthening the company’s long relationship with cycling.
