2012 ITU Triathlon World Cup hits Banyoles, Spain

Following the successful Banyoles ITU Triathlon Premium European Cup in 2011, Banyoles in Spain this year hosts the fourth ITU Triathlon World Cup of the 2012 season. This is the first time that the International Triathlon Union’s (ITU’s) World Cup series has made use of Banyoles as an event venue.

On 17 June, the race begins in the lake of Banyoles, the rowing venue at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, for a two-lap 1.5K swim before the 40K bike leads athletes around the lake for a mostly flat but technical ride. The run course passes through the park for a flat and fast finish.

A host of London 2012 bound athletes headline the 2012 Banyoles ITU Triathlon World Cup this weekend including Erin Densham (AUS), Andrea Hewitt (NZL) and Laurent Vidal (FRA). With the finalisation of Olympic teams, the last races before London are seen as important not only for offering the best indication on current form, but also as a key preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Schedule:
Elite women – Sunday 17 June – 09:45 (UTC/GMT +2)
Elite men – Sunday 17 June – 12:45 (UTC/GMT +2)
