Ahead of this coming weekend’s Ironman World Championships in Hawai’i, leading tri bike brand and Ironman sponsor partner Cervélo has released a note about its plans for the event…
At Cervélo, October is all about the Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii — and with good reason. Our relationship with triathlon is a very special one, going back to the very first bike we created in 1995.
This year, Kona welcomes the P5. Adopted overnight by all our top athletes, it already boasts eight major tri wins within six months, with outrageous records in the bike split. Recently we’ve celebrated Caroline ‘Xena’ Steffen’s win at the 2012 Frankfurter Sparkasse Ironman European Championship, and Frederik Van Lierde’s mastery of the bike split during his win at Ironman France. The P5 will be on display in our Kona lounge, with the engineering team on hand to explain how we developed a tri bike that’s simply faster.
Of course, for us Kona is about a lot more than just our bikes – it’s where we continue the conversations we build on year after year with our tri community. Therefore, we are pleased to invite everyone to come and relax at the Cervélo lounge in the Ironman Village Expo, where you can explore our new website, get a complimentary pre-race bike check on your Cervélo, or simply relax and chat with several of our athletes or with Cervélo co-founder and CEO Phil White.
Phil White hasn’t missed Kona since Cervélo was born, and has always been at the centre of the crowd to cheer on our athletes and meet with fans. This year will be no different. As part of our long-standing tradition, Phil will be handing out our Cervélo limited-edition Kona t-shirts to all Cervélo athletes at the bike check-in on Friday. On race day, he’ll be celebrating our top finishers – but won’t stop cheering from the finish line until the race ends at midnight.
