Endurance Magazine hosts second Annual Lifestyle Expo in February 2013

Endurance Magazine will host the Endurance Magazine Lifestyle Expo (formerly The North Carolina Multisport Expo) at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, on 2 February 2013. Designed to kick-off the 2013 endurance sports season, the expo will feature a wide variety of exhibitors including triathlon, running and cycling retailers, race production companies and coaches.

Two time Ironman Champion Tim DeBoom will headline the event as the keynote speaker. DeBoom won the Ironman World Championship in 2001 and 2002 and is the last American to win the prestigious race. Along with delivering the keynote address, he will spend the day at the expo, available to talk with interested attendees.

In addition to the keynote, the expo will have speakers and workshops throughout the day on a variety of topics including swim technique, bike fitting, race nutrition, sports injuries and athlete recovery. Organizers expect it be a great mix of fun and education for all levels of athletes including youth, beginners and veterans.

The expo, funded in part through a grant from USA Triathlon (USAT), will benefit North Carolina Multisport for Youth – which creates life-enriching opportunities for youth via exposure to multisport training and racing. This year Olympic swimmer and triathlete Sheila Taormina will host two free full day kids triathlon camps as part of the expo funded by The Michael and Laura Brader-Araje Foundation.

Seasoned triathlete JoAnna Younts founded the North Carolina Multisport Expo in 2011 as a way to give back to the sport she has been involved in for nearly 20 years. She also felt there was a need for this type of event given that North Carolina has one of the highest concentrations of USAT members in the country and is home to more multisport races than most states in the US.

Younts said, “It is my hope that the expo, as it grows, will continue to be a great place to learn more about multisport for new and experienced athletes.”

Endurance Magazine founder Steve Lackey said, “We are proud to be co-producing the 2013 Endurance Magazine Lifestyle Expo. Having the ability to bring everyone together under one roof is a great way to kick start the 2013 endurance sports season. Our hope is to inspire those new to endurance sports as well as to bring in experienced athletes for an informative and empowering lifestyle experience.”

Lackey also founded the Ramblin’ Rose Women’s Triathlon, which has enabled over 10,000 women to become triathletes since 2006. This year’s expo will feature an information session on the Ramblin’ Rose Triathlon as well as speakers from Tri It for Life, the Charlotte-based mentoring organization that has inspired over 1,000 women of all ages, sizes, backgrounds and abilities to develop healthy lifestyles through multisport training, mentorship and commitment.

Admission to the expo floor is free and registered attendees will be automatically entered to win free 2013 Race Entry Giveaways.

The Endurance Magazine Lifestyle Expo is on Saturday 2 February 2013 from 09:00 to 17:00 at the Wilson Recreation Center on the West Campus of Duke University. Those interested in being a vendor, sponsor, presenter or advertising in the program, please contact expo@endurancemag.com.
