Expanding XTERRA 2012 Trail Run Series

Several new races have been added to the XTERRA Trail Run Series 2012 schedule. Puerto Rico recently hosted its first of four XTERRA Trail Run races. “A bunch of newbies,” is how Race Director Efrain Cardona Cabrera described the field of more than 100 runners. “Since trail running is new around here, most were people that have never seen or known the trails and just jumped in the event for an adrenaline rush and to experience some challenging and adventurous racing.”

The Puerto Rico Series will stage more XTERRA trail runs in May, August and November (Along with an XTERRA off-road triathlon on 19 February).

After a couple of years off the schedule, the XTERRA Tennessee Trail Run Series will make a return in 2012. Race Director Victoria Seahorn has already secured two races on the schedule, and is in the process of adding at least one more.

“We hope that the XTERRA Tennessee Series will fill a void for the growing number of trail runners in this area of the United States who are looking for trail races,” Seahorn said. “Tennessee has some gorgeous and challenging trails, and we feel like it is a perfect setting for a series of races.”

The first race on the schedule for Tennessee will be the XTERRA Power to the Tower Trail Run on 7 April. That will be followed by the XTERRA Tanasi Trail Run on 19 May. The last time Tennessee hosted an XTERRA Trail Run was in 2009.

Two new races in Washington state will also join the XTERRA Trail Run Series schedule in 2012. The first event will be the XTERRA Fort Steilacoom Trail Run at Lakewood, Washington, on 24 March. That will be followed by the XTERRA Lord Hill Trail Run at Snohomish, on 2 June.

More races in the region will be added later in the year, and the XTERRA Pacific Northwest Series will become a full series in 2013.
