Gros Morne Gran Fondo 2012

Taking place on 2 September 2012, a mass participation Gran Fondo cycling event is hitting Canada. The Gros Morne Gran Fondo gets under way at 07:00 local time at Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada; and is positioned as ‘a big ride for serious cyclists and fitness enthusiasts.’

Starting in Corner Brook, the ride will progress through Deer Lake, and along the Viking Trail through Gros Morne National Park, ending in Rocky Harbour.

With support from the NL Ministry of Tourism and Recreation, Bicycle NL, the city of Corner Brook and the towns of Deer Lake and Rocky Harbour, the ride aims to attract participants from around the province, from other regions of Eastern Canada, from the Northeastern US, and from Western Europe, where GranFondo events have been popular for many years.

The route is 125K (78 miles) with an elevation gain of 1503m (4931 feet) overall.
