Ironman Foundation partnership with iPhone/Android app Charity Miles

The Ironman Foundation has announced a partnership with Charity Miles, an iPhone/Android app that empowers runners, walkers and cyclists to earn money for charity during training. Smart phone users who download the Charity Miles app will see The Ironman Foundation as a featured charity available for selection.

Users can choose The Ironman Foundation at the beginning of a workout to earn money for The Ironman Foundation Community Fund, which provides support to non-profit groups located in Ironman race communities. Cyclists earn US$0.10 cents per mile, while runners and walkers earn US$0.25 cents per mile.

“We are excited about partnering with Charity Miles and providing triathletes from all over the world an opportunity to give back to the communities where they race,” said David Deschenes, Executive Director for The Ironman Foundation. “Since athletes spend countless hours on the road training for their Ironman journey, it seems fitting to provide them with a way to raise money at the same time.”

The Ironman Foundation aims to build a legacy in its race communities through philanthropy, volunteering and grant making. The funds earned from the use of the Charity Miles app will allow the foundation to continue supporting various athletic, community, education, health, human services and public benefit non-profit organizations around the world.

“We are proud to support the grant funding provided by The Ironman Foundation,” said the Founder of Charity Miles and six-time Ironman Triathlon finisher, Gene Gurkoff. “It is unique that an organization gives back to the communities in which it participates in, as is the case with The Ironman Foundation and we look forward to harnessing the power of Ironman athletes everywhere to make an even bigger impact throughout these areas.”

Charity Miles is a free iPhone/Android app that allows people to earn money for charity when they walk, run or bike. Bikers earn 10¢ per mile. Walkers and runners earn 25¢ per mile. Along with The Ironman Foundation, the app also includes: ASPCA, Achilles International, Autism Speaks, Every Mother Counts, Feeding America, The Global Fund, Habitat for Humanity, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, Pencils of Promise, Stand Up To Cancer, Wounded Warrior Project, and the World Food Program. Athletes can download the app for free in the Apple and Android app stores.
