Ironman NZ statement on 2012 alternative races

The organizing team at Ironman New Zealand has issued an interim statement on the discounted Ironman races on offer in 2012 to registered athletes, following the cancellation of the full Ironman event last weekend in New Zealand due to severe weather.

Unfortunately, athletes who were due to compete at Ironman NZ will not be able to take part at Ironman Melbourne, which takes place on 25 March 2012, due to the proximity of this event.

Ironman NZ statement:
World Triathlon Corporation has offered the opportunity for all 2012 competitors to take part in another full Ironman event at a reduced rate. They are currently working through the details of this, and are in contact with a number of races to determine space availability, cost and the process. The details will be outlined in an email to you by the end of next week.

Unfortunately, this will not include Ironman Melbourne. As the race is only two weeks away, the organisers have already finalised all of the logistics and resources required to stage the event, and therefore it is not possible to extend this at this late stage.

Entries for the 2013 Ironman New Zealand were scheduled to open this Friday March 9. However, until the potential alternative race opportunities for you for 2012 are finalised, we did not want to confuse things with a 2013 race. We will notify you as soon as possible when entries will open including all the entry details.
