Ironman UK & Ireland has confirmed that the swim at Ironman Wales 2012 will be held on Tenby’s North Beach. Following athlete feedback from 2011, the relevant authorities have given the organisers the go-ahead for the swim to return to the North Beach again this year.
The North Beach heralded Ironman Wales 2011 when high winds from Hurricane Katia forced the organisers to move from the previously allocated South Beach, which was being battered by the elements. The move to the North Beach does see a 1K run to T1, which is expected to remain in place – helping to add further iconic status to Ironman Wales 2012!
The North Beach is an ideal location, with the harbour, Goskar Rock in the middle of the beach and the surrounding cliffs providing a spectacular setting. This helped create a unique atmosphere for all athletes and spectators in 2011.
Liverpool 5150 becomes 5150 European Championship
Liverpool Triathlon has a growing reputation as a great race on a fast course, with a full road closure at the heart of one of the world’s most iconic cities.
The event’s credentials have now been recognised with the event honoured as the first 5150 European Championship. While still offering racing for athletes of all abilities, there will be a stronger field than ever competing for the 5150 European Title and the opportunity to qualify as an age group athlete to the Hy-Vee, the world’s richest triathlon with over US$1m prize money on offer for both pros and age group athletes.
The city centre course takes in the iconic landmarks of Liverpool including the Liver Building, Echo Arena and the Albert Docks and with a number of events having moved due to the Olympics, Liverpool 5150 is ideally placed to offer athletes a closed road race in the summer.
