Oulton Park going the Xtra Mile as European Duathlon Championships Qualifier

Following the unveiling of the 2013 British Triathlon Age-Group Major Events Programme, Xtra Mile Events is pleased to announce that the Oulton Park Spring Duathlon has been confirmed as one of the qualifiers for the 2013 ETU Standard Distance Duathlon European Championships.

The Oulton Park Spring Duathlon takes place on Sunday 17 March 2013 around the famous Oulton Park Motor Racing Circuit in Cheshire, north west England, with both the sprint and the standard distance races open to elite, amateur and novice racers.

Anyone wishing to practice for the qualifiers next spring has got the unique opportunity to take part in the Oulton Park Autumn Duathlon, which takes place at the same venue on Sunday 7 October 2012.

As Xtra Mile notes, even if athletes don’t intend to qualify for the ETU Standard Distance Duathlon European Championships next year, the Oulton Park Autum Duathlon is a great race to finish the season at one of the UK’s finest motor racing circuits. A traffic free race track, super smooth tarmac, transition in the pits and a banked hairpin make for some fast racing, giving all competitors the chance to see how fast they can really go and to finish the season on a high.

In adddition to the Oulton Park Autumn Duathlon being a unique opportunity to practice for the ETU qualifier in the spring, Xtra Mile has noted that it will also test out ‘state of the art lap counting technology’ in preparation for the qualifiers in March.

The standard distance race incorporates an 8.6K run (2 laps) followed by an exhilarating 38.7K cycle (9 laps) and a final run lap of 4.3K, totalling 51.6K. Sprint distance competitors will start with a 4.3K run (1 lap), followed by a 21.5K cycle (5 laps) and a final run lap of 4.3K, covering a total distance of 30.1K.

Event costs are £42 for individual entries or £55 for team entries which includes numbered racking and electronic chip timing. The prize-givings take place after each event, with prizes awarded in the following categories: overall winners (male and female), male and female age groups, relay team prize, club prize (first 3 athletes from the same club) and novice prize.

Limited places are available for the Oulton Park Autumn Duathlon, with entry closing on 29 September or when sold out.
