SportPursuit, the UK’s first sport flash sales website, has been selected as a finalist for the Startups Awards 2012, in recognition of the online retailer’s success and innovation over the past 12 months.
This latest nomination follows last month’s confirmation that SportPursuit had won the coveted New e-Retailer of the Year Award at the eCommerce Awards for Excellence.
Founded in August 2011 by sports enthusiasts Adam Pikett and Victoria Walton, SportPursuit is one of a select number of companies from across the UK that have been named as a finalist, and have been shortlisted for the coveted Young Startup of the Year Award.
As the UK’s first sport flash-sales website, SportPursuit combines ‘top sports brands and fantastic prices’ in seven day flash-sales. A ‘flash-sale’ is a highly discounted time-limited offer on a specific brand, meaning that the price reductions are significant but that consumers need to get in quick to guarantee a bargain.
Working with over 120 high profile brands, SportPursuit aims to sort out the best deals to provide their members with a highly reduced and yet great quality product.
Adam Pikett, CEO of SportPursuit commented, “As keen sportspeople ourselves we were able to recognise that there is a real space in the market for a site like ours. The sports industry in the UK is worth in excess of £8bn and we know how much athletes love their technical, high end sports gear.”
He continued ‘We are honoured and excited to have been nominated for the Young Start Up of the Year Award, and look forward to finding out the results this December.”
Duncan Bannatyne, of UK TV’s Dragons’ Den fame, will lead the judging panel alongside a number of other highly successful entrepreneurs and business experts including James Hurley, Enterprise Editor for the Daily Telegraph and Kevin Byrne, Managing Director of checkatrade.com.
