Brooklyn Triathlon in coaching tie-up with Ben Greenfield

With the launch of the inaugural Brooklyn Triathlon in historic Coney Island taking place on Sunday 10 November, and with registration now open, race producer Pacific Sports has announced that Brooklyn Triathlon competitors will get the additional benefit of ongoing coaching tips from well-known triathlon coach Ben Greenfield.

Coach Greenfield will provide competitors training tips throughout the year via the event’s Facebook page, and for-registrants-only via ‘Spreecasts’. He will also hold a course workshop prior to the event. Greenfield has created 18 week training plans for the Sprint and Olympic distances that participants of all levels can use to prepare for the race.

“Ben’s coaching tips will help beginning triathletes and seasoned veterans to get proper training, and prepare for our new course in Coney Island,” said event Race Director and Pacific Sports President, Jack Caress. “Ben will offer important advice that is specific to our event: course layout, weather and water conditions, and final race day prep. We wanted this from the top source in our sport.”

As a triathlon coach, Greenfield has solid credentials. He is the head triathlon coach at Pacific Elite Fitness; owner of BenGreenfieldFitness.com, ranked as one of the top 100 fitness websites; and a practitioner and wellness coach at WellnessFX. He is also owner of Endurance Planet, a leading online source for endurance sports audio entertainment, and host of the ‘Get-Fit Guy’ podcast on iTunes.

In 2008, he was voted Personal Trainer of the Year, by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), an internationally recognized and respected certifying agency.

“Pacific Sports is known for putting on fantastic events, and I’m incredibly excited to be part of the new Brooklyn Triathlon,” said Ben Greenfield. “As a triathlon coach, it’s a pleasure to be able to create training plans for events that I know are going to be amazing experiences for everyone involved, and I look forward immensely to helping triathletes from around the world prepare for these races!”

Greenfield holds certifications from NSCA (personal training, strength and conditioning), the International Society of Sports Nutrition and from Serotta (advanced bicycle fitting). In his spare time, he contributes to Ironman’s LAVA magazine, Fox News, AskMen.com, the Huffington Post, PTOntheNet, OutThere magazine and other popular triathlon, fitness and nutrition publications and websites.

As a triathlon coach and competitor, Ben competes at Ironman and Half-Ironman World Championships, holds a ranking as one of USAT’s top ranked age group triathletes, and competes in 15 to 20 triathlons each year, both nationally and internationally.

Coach Greenfield’s speedcoaching sessions on the Brooklyn Triathlon’s Facebook page will be held monthly. The registrant-only Spreecast workshops, which allow competitors an opportunity to talk with Coach Greenfield in real-time through video and chat, will be scheduled regularly and a link provided to registrants through email notification.

The official training plans for the event, written by Greenfield, will be available on the race website from 1 May. All competitors who register before 1 June will receive a 20% discount on the ‘already affordable plan pricing.’

Registration is now open for the inaugural Brooklyn Triathlon. Athletes can include the code BROOKLYNSOCKS13 and receive a free pair of Champion System triathlon socks once they have registered.
