ENVE has confirmed that its Smart ENVE System (SES) Aero Bar is now shipping. The first component in the SES line-up, the SES Aero Bar was specifically developed for the aftermarket and, according to ENVE, ‘allows unprecedented adjustability without compromising top level aerodynamics.’
“When ENVE partnered with Simon Smart the goal was to bring world class aerodynamics to ENVE’s already outstanding product,” said ENVE CEO Sarah Lehman. “From the beginning, we knew that the collaboration would extend beyond wheels and the new Smart ENVE System Aero Bar is the first of several aero components.”
The SES Aero Bar follows ENVE’s ‘function first philosophy’:
- First, the part must be compatible with a majority of the frames on the market. For this reason the SES Aero Bar features a standard 31.8 clamp allowing it to be used on virtually any modern triathlon or time trial bike.
- Second, it must be compatible with as many riders as possible. With this in mind, Smart and ENVE set out to create an aero handlebar system that was not only aerodynamic, but also extremely adjustable so that virtually any rider can obtain their optimized position.
“Over the years I have worked with many athletes of all calibres to help them obtain their optimized aero position,” said Aerodynamicist Simon Smart.
“It is not uncommon to find that most of these athletes use an aero bar that is either highly aerodynamic or highly adjustable, but rare that the bar accomplishes both. The new SES Aero Bar is unique in that it is arguably the most aerodynamic bar on the market with unprecedented adjustability.”
The SES Aero Bar features a reversible base bar, micro angle adjust extensions, reversible extension towers with multiple width options, 2 in 1 extension and pad carriers capable of multiple configurations to fine tune arm rest position.
As with all ENVE products, the SES Aero Bar is light weight, and carries a standard 5-Year Warranty and Lifetime Crash Replacement.

Simon Smart, an ex-Formula One aerodynamicist with fifteen years of engineering experience at the highest level of motor sport, earned global recognition for his design and development of the Giant Trinity and Scott Plasma 3 TT frames in the wind tunnel – both manufacturers realizing overnight success in the Pro Tour with wins in the team and individual time trials.
Smart’s business, Smart Aero Technology, is based on the same site as the Mercedes GP – Petronas team headquarters and wind tunnel in Brackley, Northhamptonshire in the United Kingdom.
