On 16 September 2013, 1,500 athletes competed in Ironman Wales – one of the world’s most challenging and iconic Ironman events. The event has now been captured in a collection of vivid photographic images, remembering in detail the emotion, passion and competitive spirit of all those who took part.
The latest edition of the free digital triathlon magazine ‘Different Perspective’ (www.different-perspective.co.uk) is filled with lots of beautiful images and insightful interviews with age groupers and pros alike.
It is the creation of David Pearce, ‘one of the newest triathlon photographers on the block’, and already a cameraman in demand. David is a regular on the racing circuit and has attended dozens of races across 2013, and even competed in Ironman UK back in August.
When asked about his work, David said, “Different Perspective exists as a window for my work as a professional triathlon photographer. I spend a few days at each event, but due to limited space the print publications only have enough room for a few images. I view this as a real shame, as you, the competitors and fans, miss out on some of the best images and most certainly the ‘documentary’ ones which tell the real story of the race.”
He continued, “I seek to capture the emotion, the joy, the sadness and the elation. Like the name of my business shows – it’s about the ‘different perspective’, the parts of the event that standard photography can easily miss. If you have time it is worthwhile considering what each image is saying – what story is it telling?”
David only photographed his first triathlon back in June, after many years working as a professional photographer.
“I was hooked instantly,” David said. “I loved the grit of a triathlon event – the pure emotion. Since then my work has featured in all of the big triathlon titles, as double page spreads in some instances. I’m really happy with how things are going.”
