The Macclesfield Triathlon is back for 2013. According to organiser Xtra Mile Events, there is still time to enter and be part of the event next month – helping to raise money for a worth cause. Taking place on Sunday 18 August, this popular pool based sprint distance tri in Cheshire, England, is aimed at both seasoned triathletes and novices.
Based at the Macclesfield Leisure Centre, the event starts with a 400m swim in the 8 lane heated indoor pool, followed by a beautiful 24.9K ride from the Cheshire Plains out into the edge of the Peak District and a 2 lap, 7.34K run along lanes in the Broken Cross area.
The organisers have just announced Friends of Park Lane School as the Official Event Charity. The school is not only supplying volunteers and marshals for the event but has also been offering invaluable support to the event organiser’s four year old son Eddy.
Race Director Simon Hill commented “We are excited to bring the triathlon back to Macclesfield for the sixth time; the Macclesfield Leisure Centre is a great venue and the fact that it is a pool based sprint distance race makes it accessible to triathletes of all levels.
“We would like to encourage competitors to raise money for our Official Event Charity, Friends of Park Lane School. We have got a very personal connection to the school with our four year old son Eddy being a pupil there. Eddy has just undergone brain surgery to remove a brain tumour that he has had since birth.
“All of the staff at Park Lane School have been tremendously supportive both before and after the operation and have been doing a great job for Eddy, hence us choosing Friends of Park Lane School as the Official Event Charity for the 2013 Macclesfield Triathlon.”
Anyone wishing to support Friends of Park Lane School can request a fundraising pack at the point of registration.
On race day, competitors start in waves, with the first wave scheduled for 07:00 GMT. The Macclesfield Triathlon is also part of the Xtra Mile Events Tri Sprint Series but competitors can sign up for the race as a single event only.
Event costs are £42 for individual entries or £55 for relay team entries, including numbered transition racking, electronic chip timing and a goody bag. The prize giving takes place after the event, with prizes awarded in the following categories: overall winners (male and female), male and female age groups, relay team prize, club prize (first 3 athletes from the same club) and novice prize.
Entries to the BTF sanctioned Macclesfield Triathlon close on 15 August 2013 or when sold out.
