GB age-group qualification kicks off at Althorp Duathlon

The Althorp Duathlon takes place this coming Saturday 16 February representing the first opportunity for age-group duathletes to book their place in the Great Britain Age-Group Team for the 2013 Horst ETU Powerman Sprint Duathlon European Championships and 2013 Ottawa ITU Sprint Duathlon World Championships.

The qualifier event is being organised by On Your Marks Events. Althorp Duathlon is the first qualification event for the Great Britain Age-Group Team this season in what will be an exciting year of multisport action for athletes across the country as London hosts the 2013 PruHealth World Triathlon Grand Final in September.

This early season race will see duathletes race through the Althorp Estate in Northamptonshire completing a 5K run, 20K bike and final 5K run.

The qualification process for the 2013 Horst ETU Powerman Sprint Duathlon European Championships will continue later this year at the Morpeth Sprint Duathlon on 1 April. The Morpeth event is also the third and final chance to qualify for the 2013 Ottawa ITU Sprint Duathlon World Championships, whilst the Clumber Park Duathlon on 23 March is the second qualification race for Ottawa.

Any duathletes intending to qualify at the Althorp Duathlon event must register their intent on the British Triathlon website by 17:00 GMT on Friday 15 February 2013.

Malcolm Westwood, British Triathlon Director for Age-Group, added β€œIt’s very exciting to get the 2013 qualification process under way in what will be a great year for our Great Britain Age-Group Team. The Althorp Duathlon will provide a good early season test and will ensure the strongest athletes qualify for the European and World Championship teams.”
