Growth & Globalization of Triathlon conference hits London in September

Triathlon Business International (TBI), the industry organization dedicated to promoting the sport and the business of triathlon internationally, has today confirmed its inaugural global conference ‘The Growth & Globalization of Triathlon’, which takes place on 10-12 September 2013 at the Hilton London Metropole in London, UK.

The date was selected to coincide with the ITU Triathlon World Championship Grand Final in Hyde Park on 11-15 September 2013. Registration for the conference is now open.

This first-ever global conference targets retailers, event directors, service providers, manufacturers, industry executives and athletes who make their living in triathlon – ‘the fastest growing sport on the planet’. The conference focuses on the business of the sport – event management, media, technology, equipment manufacturing & sales, apparel, nutrition and competition. It is designed specifically to bring insights into the market forces that shape the globalization and growth of triathlon, and its related sports of swimming, biking and running.

The content of the London conference will be led by experts and speakers who are triathlon storytellers and fact-finders – providing practical, functional and motivational information through multiple general sessions, panel discussions, topical breakout sessions and case studies.

Topics will cover:

  • Event rules, safety, and emergency management;
  • International mergers/acquisitions;
  • Maximizing event participation, revenue and media;
  • Attracting participants;
  • ROI on sponsorships;
  • Online and traditional retailing;
  • Social media and mobile trends;
  • Trends in training, nutrition and equipment; and
  • Reports on the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The genesis of the London conference came during the 2012 (then) Triathlon America annual conference in San Diego, California, which was opened by keynote speaker and International Triathlon Union (ITU) President and IOC member Marisol Casado. Part of her presentation focused on developing the sport of triathlon to its fullest extent, which dovetailed precisely into Triathlon America’s goals.

As noted by TBI (which rebranded from Triathlon America to TBI in May 2012), Casado was impressed and intrigued with the vision and potential of the organisation. She asked TBI President Jack Caress and the founding board members if the organization would be interested in producing a global conference and hosting the reception at the London Games celebrating the sport of triathlon at the Olympics.

With a resounding ‘yes’, the rest is history – with a London triathlon conference and Olympic reception seen as a natural extension of TBI’s expansion.

Triathlon Business International is ‘the world’s leading organization dedicated to promoting the sport and business of triathlon.’ Founded by a coalition of industry leaders, TBI’s mission is to leverage the knowledge, talent and resources of the leaders in triathlon to the benefit of the sport.

Its overarching goals are to increase and retain advocates of and participants in triathlon, and to foster a positive image of the sport globally.
