Human Race gears up for full May Bank Holiday weekend of swim & triathlon

Leading UK endurance sport race organiser Human Race is preparing for a full weekend of open water swimming and triathlon over the UK Bank Holiday weekend. The event company has five different events taking place on Saturday 25th, Sunday 26th and Monday 27th May.

Over the course of the weekend, competitors and their friends and families will join in a festival-like celebration of swimming and triathlon, with various races and a WomenOnly training day tailored to suit all ages and abilities.

Human Race - on the run

The Dorney SuperSprint kicks the weekend off on Saturday 25 May. A popular addition to the Dorney SuperSprint is the inclusion of two ‘Mates Waves’ where training partners and friends can race alongside each other without being split into different categories. The first Mates Wave is already fully booked so those looking to compete with their friends should register as soon as possible.

Sunday 26 May sees a further three events take place at Dorney Lake. The Shock Absorber WomenOnly Training Day is positioned as the perfect introduction for any women who are new to the sport of triathlon. Coaches from RG Active will provide practical and theoretical advice on all three race disciplines and help athletes practice their transitions.

The British Triathlon Youth and Junior Super Series Triathlon will also see promising 15-19 year old boys and girls compete at the iconic Dorney Olympic venue. This event will act as a Qualification Race for the European Youth Relays (15-17 years) and is also a High Performance Drafting race for more experienced triathletes who are members of the British Triathlon Federation.

Human Race - on the bike

Sunday’s final event, the Wiggle Tri Challenge, genuinely caters for everyone. With three distances to choose from – Sprint, ¾ and Olympic distance – and also the chance to compete in the ¾ and Olympic distance races as part of a relay team, the Wiggle Tri Challenge is one of the most popular events of the year.

The Bank Holiday weekend is rounded off on Monday with the Eton Swim. Here, five different distances are available, from 750m to the iconic 10K swimmers marathon, and this year sees the introduction of a 5K half marathon swim. Dorney Lake, with its clear water, accurate marker points and clear lines of sight provides a great place to take on a first open water swim or take on the challenge of the longer disciplines.

From amateur boys and girls to experienced elite athletes, the Bank Holiday weekend at Dorney Lake is set to be one of the biggest weekends in the Human Race calendar.
