John Lunt honoured with tri lifetime achievement award

Human Race founder John Lunt has taken home the Jane Tomlinson Award for Outstanding Contribution to Triathlon – following the annual 220 Triathlon Awards this past weekend.

John who set up Chessington based, Human Race, 22 years ago has grown the business from two events, to being the UK’s largest and most diverse mass-participation sports events company. Back in 1991 when John established Human Race, triathlon was a much less widespread sport and he has contributed to its growth over the years to the present day where GB has achieved Olympic Gold in the sport.

Human Race boosts a prestigious portfolio of triathlons including the annual Toshiba Windsor Triathlon, which is televised on Channel 4 every year, and also the Jenson Button Trust Triathlon.

2012 was also a major year for John as he was Race Director for the Olympic Triathlon in Hyde Park. John was called upon by LOCOG in 2007 to work on the world stage and deliver the UK’s most important triathlon, following his years of experience in delivering top class triathlon events.

“I am honoured to accept this award from my peers in the triathlon industry,” John said. “I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of working on the Olympic triathlon in 2012 and continuing the Olympic legacy at grass roots level through my work with Human Race. We run more than 55 events each year and I would encourage anyone who was inspired by the Olympics to get out and take part in an event this year.”

As well as triathlon events, John and his team at Human Race also deliver cycling, running and swimming events. Human Race is the UK’s largest and most diverse mass participation events company; owning and delivering over 50 events in triathlon, cycling, running, duathlon and open water swimming for over 50,000 participants of all abilities and ages each year.

The company’s highly prestigious portfolio of events includes 11 triathlons, 9 cycling events, 10 running events, 7 open water swims and 6 kids’ events.

These events bring together an active community of people taking part in sporting events for reasons ranging from fitness, competition, charity, health, fun or to simply finish. The participants vary from nervous first timers from 4 to 80, through to World Champions. Collectively, the events raise millions of pounds for hundreds of charities.
