The London Triathlon title sponsorship opportunity up for grabs

The London Triathlon, part of the IMG Challenger World portfolio of mass participation events, has announced that its title sponsor contract with Virgin Active Health Clubs has ‘come to a natural end, following three successful years of sponsorship.’

The London Triathlon is ‘the world’s largest triathlon’ with 13,000 participants signing up annually to take part over two days on the iconic route in the London Docklands. Next year’s event takes place on 2-3 August 2014.

Sponsorship discussions are now in process with a number of companies. Any other interested parties can contact alex.ward[at]@img.com for more information.

IMG Challenger World Managing Director, James Robinson said “We have very much enjoyed working with Virgin Active Health Clubs, an iconic British brand and health club who has engaged successfully with our 13,000 participants.”

He continued, “This is a time of development for triathlon in the UK and a fantastic time to become involved in the sport. It is also an exciting time for the event and we look forward to working with a new title sponsor for 2014 and beyond.”

Virgin Active Health Clubs’ CMO, Brian Waring said “The London Triathlon is a fantastic event in London’s sporting calendar, and we have been very proud to be a part of it for the last three years. We are in discussions to continue as an associate sponsor of the world’s biggest triathlon next year, and we hope to welcome all those would-be and training triathletes into our clubs.”

The 2014 London Triathlon went on sale today, 3 October via www.thelondontriathlon.co.uk. Athletes were able to receive priority entry on up to 2 October by registering their interest via the website.

The London Triathlon 2014 is offering four different race types to participants as they swim, bike and run their way around some of the capital’s most iconic landmarks.

Taking place on 2-3 August 2014, the event is offering a variety of distances to participants with Super Sprint, Sprint, Olympic and Olympic Plus waves available for general entry, as well as the option to compete as individuals or as part of a team relay. As noted by the organisers, there is something to suit everyone from elite athletes trying to shave vital seconds off their personal bests, to complete novices taking on a new challenge.

Centred around London Dockland’s Excel Centre, the London Tri welcomes over 13,000 triathletes of all abilities and over 30,000 spectators to one of the highlight events of the UK triathlon calendar.

Every year The London Triathlon attracts a wide array of competitors, and the 2013 event was no exception. A team comprised of Olympic athletes Louis Smith MBE, Nicola Adams MBE and Jade Jones MBE, brought excitement sky high as Nicola and Jade returned to the location of their Olympic glory.

The sporty theme continued this year with Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm taking part in her second London Triathlon. Welsh rugby star Gareth Thomas and cricket legend Mark Ramprakash both captained relay teams in the VIP wave as they took part for Macmillan Cancer Support, while British triathlon stars Jodie Stimpson, Stuart Hayes and Lucy Hall joined the likes of Gregory Rouault in a strong elite field.

The London Triathlon also provides a platform on which charities can raise awareness and funds for their worthy causes. The event attracts countless fundraisers and it has been instrumental in generating vital funds for charities for over 10 years.

Last year, Gerry McCann, father of Madeline McCann, took on the Olympic distance event to raise funds and awareness for the Missing People charity.
