Most successful year ever for Cycletta

Human Race, ‘the UK’s largest and most diverse sports events company’ has revealed that its 2013 Cycletta Series has been the biggest so far and has encouraged almost 3,700 women to get on their bikes this summer.

Throughout 2013, the female only Cycletta series attracted a mix of experienced cyclists alongside newcomers to the sport who were looking for a challenge. Cycletta is the UK’s leading series of women only bike rides. It is partnered with Sky Ride and British Cycling’s Breeze initiative who share the goal of getting more women out cycling.

The increasing numbers of women willing to take on a Cycletta challenge also reflect the success that is being enjoyed by British Cycling overall.

The sports governing body notes that its ambition to get one million more women cycling by 2020 is ‘on track’ – as it recently published a six month update on its women’s strategy, announcing that around 106,000 women have participated in British Cycling programmes so far this year.

Cycletta ambassador Victoria Pendleton said “I am thrilled that 2013 has been the biggest and best year for the Cycletta Series. The future of women’s cycling is very bright and I enjoyed meeting lots of the ladies who took part this year from the nervous first timer to the experienced sportive rider. I am delighted to be involved in such a fantastic series and look forward to watching it grow even further in 2014.”
