Ironman brand owner World Triathlon Corp has confirmed that that Canadian based Sportstats will be the official timing company for all Ironman North American events from 2013 to 2015. Sportstats, the official timing company for the Ironman World Championship since 2004, is the largest timing and results company in North America with almost 600 events yearly.
This time last year, Sportstats acquired Vancouver-based Race Headquarters to cement its position as the leading sports timing player across the region. The acquisition last February enabled the Ottawa-based Sportstats to time more than 500 events– up from the 350 events the company timed in 2011.
“We have been working at Ironman races since 1997,” said Sportstats President Marc Roy. “Many of our staff are Ironman athletes themselves and are passionate about the sport. We’re thrilled to be working with Ironman for all their events here in North America for the next few years.”
Through 2012, Sportstats introduced Mylaps ProChip technology to Ironman events, which allows for more timing locations at each event since the systems are more portable and the chips more powerful. WTC and Sportstats will work closely throughout 2013 to revamp the tracking system used for live coverage of Ironman events, including a new mobile application.
