Today, 15 September, is the deadline for submitting bids to the European Triathlon Union (ETU) to host 2015 ETU Triathlon European Cups.
ETU is inviting bids from ETU National Federations (NFs), Host Cities or Event Local Organising Committees (LOCs) who are interested in hosting ETU Triathlon European Cups and Junior European Cups.
The events in ETU’s 2015 roster include:
- ETU Junior Triathlon European Cups
- ETU Sprint Triathlon European Cups
- ETU Triathlon European Cups
- ETU Triathlon Premium European Cups
- ETU Triathlon Final
ETU points out that Europe is a big, big place and that the continent has so much to offer. Europe has over the years offered up some of the best racing in the world to athletes visiting from Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada.
ETU would like to see the development of events continue within Europe and will actively assist National Federations, Host Cities and LOCs in their preparations. This year Ukraine delivered two events on the ETU calendar. Sprint and Standard distance events were held that offered not only Elite Races but also Open (Age Group) and Paratri races.
ETU added that reports from athletes were very positive about their journey to a country that has been in the news for other reasons this year. ‘The legacy created by the LOC, working closely with the NF and ETU, is a strong one and ETU recognises the benefit of holding events in Eastern Europe in terms of ease of travel, accommodation costs and visa requirements.’
In addition, with winter already not too not far away, ETU notes that it is committed to promoting Winter Triathlon. Europe has a long tradition of racing over the run, MTB and ski courses. Over the past few years, some of the most successful and exciting Winter Triathlon World Championships have taken place on European soil.
In tandem with this, ETU adds that duathlon has become a big attraction for athletes around Europe and across the world. ETU has already forged a successful partnership with IPA (International Powerman Association) and with this commercial partner ETU is offering Sprint and Long Distance championships to athletes.
ETU is keen to see more races on the duathlon calendar that can help athletes prepare for championships. Race organisers are invited to get in touch, to host duathlon events that can combine Sprint with Standard Distance courses and that are family-friendly.
